Pro-Stat® Indications for Use
Nutritionally At Risk: Patients should be assessed to identify risk factors that may place them at risk nutritionally. Each medical facility and health care clinical team should identify the assessment process to be used. The assessment to identify risk includes, but is not necessarily limited to, a review of:
- Physical functioning and structural problems
- Disease diagnosis that potentially contributes to unplanned weight loss, such as cancer or mental conditions, such as depression, confusion, organic dementia
- Current height/weight and weight history
- Current oral/nutritional status
- Current caloric and protein needs
- Current oral/dental status such as dry mouth, poor dentition, mouth sores, etc that may restrict intake of adequate protein sources
- Skin condition
- Hyper metabolic states
- Drug regimens related to nutrition
- Applicable lab values
- Current nutritional intake
- Ability to self-feed
- Alterations in taste, smell, chewing swallowing
- Ability to obtain or finish food before before it becomes unpalatable resulting in 25% or more of food uneaten
